Short link farm

I am caught up enough that even the midweek-busy blues are dealable. Yay, me!

So, how many iPods would need for all these cuts?

These are for O's next dinner.

This cartoon has been making the rounds, probably because it it so succinctly true.

Hey - my MiniCity is ready to start having "industry." I changed the graphic link in the sidebar so your visits will now create industry instead of growing the population. Come visit!

I found this on some other blog and couldn't resist:

It wasn't until I looked closer that I understood that ad. I thought it was just funny because Diane likes Champagne. But looking closer, it's actually a malt liquor beverage called Champale! Mmm mmm, ain't nothing like a bottle of extra dry malt liquor faux champagne... And it's marketed to black people! What a surprise.

And in answer to your rhetorical question... it would take 4 ipods.

Seriously, I must try Champale. After all, "It's something else".

"...when only hard-core music fans listen to physical music formats."

So when I come across some music I like, I put it on my Amazon wish list. It's not that I usually intend to order from Amazon, it has just developed into my place to store this information, rather than scraps of paper.

Anyway, I've started noticing that the mp3 versions are much cheaper. I am torn: as with books, I still love the physical format. However, I also recognize that environmentally and economically speaking, not to mention space-wise, the electronic format makes much more sense. Still cannot bring myself to purchase something I really like in mp3 only, though. I'm curious if/when my attitude will change, or if eventually the decision will simply be made for me.

Maybe we should have a Champale party some fine Saturday night.

Using the extremely crappy compression rates the human ear has somehow grown to accept as pleasant, six million songs would probably fit onto one iPod shuffle. Yes, 1 gigabyte for the world's vast store of sonic beauty shredded down to a quarter-sized universe of horse droppings and slag.

Steve's right, of course. While I've personally never seen the use 96 bit recordings (it might make a difference to my dog, but he only likes Enya!), the compression schema (and it's compuer-determined for law of averages, not quality) for mp3's is ho-rrendous. It's like taking the Mona Lisa and making a doily out of it. Now, granted, we're only a few years away from vinyl "tics" and needle-wear, but the way people have settled for poor sound for convenience is a bit appalling.

I guess it's another case of "La la la la--if I don't know what I'm misiing, I don't care..."
