Winding down

Hard to believe we leave here tomorrow night - this has been a splendid vacation all the way around. We've been doing the beach thing most of the time, although we have spent some time in Lahaina Town and the Whaler's Village resort area as well. I missed out on seeing Uncle Rudi perform at the Ka'anipali Hotel for the second year in a row, but we did catch some cool Taiko drummers.

Mostly it's just been relaxing. Otis has done some art, and I've been doing a lot of fun reading. We both plan to come back refreshed and ready for action.

Congratulations on the vacation. I'm curious. What sort of act does Uncle Rudi have?

Uncle Rudi is the one and only Rudi Okino, who graces the stage at the Ka'annapali Beach Hotel on Maui for their nightly entertainment. He performs (along with hula dancers and the band) the usual touristy island songs as well as some traditional Hawaiian songs, but he is most known for his strangely moving xylophone performance of "Phantom of the Opera." It's a wonderful bit of culture clash that gets standing ovations.
