I have two gray t-shirts that are calling for graphics on them. Which two of these images should adorn my next two T-shirts? Vote for two in the box to the right.
Walaka I need to attend your workshop on comics so you can 'splain me what, if anything, is behind the hypermale and hyperfemale bodies of the non-superhero comics. Seeing these few cells in isolation made me realize that that's part of why I've never been interested in comics. I get that for superheroes you want them to be all muscle-y and bulgy and stuff, but what about the non-superhero ones?
Anyway, not meaning to rain on your parade, just curious! :-)
Wow, there's a whole lot going on, from the idea of "heroic realism" to the concept that comix art is getting more and more derivative (and hence, less realistic) than some of the earlier draftsmanship.
Looking at these panels, we have a "hyperfemale" Wonder Woman (to use your term) from last month, a heroic Atom from about 60 years ago, a fairly ordinary (I think) Clark Kent and female person from about 40 years ago, and Rock/Marie clinch from about 20 yrs ago that doesn't look really "hyper" to me. If you like, I'll send you some really egregious examples of "hyper" anatomy.
Yay, I knew you'd have an answer for me! And you anticipated my question about derivativeness. So, does this mean you've downloaded skype? If so, email me your skype name so I can add you and we can tawk for free!
